SAUDADE

Saudade reaches one of her four purple arms, handing a luminous fruit to someone the rest of us can not see. We don’t know why Saudade has come to live in Numina, but we hope her partner follows her soon. Saudade is a Portuguese concept of a deep emotional state of nostalgic or profound melancholic longing for something or someone that one cares for and/or loves. Moreover, it often carries a repressed knowledge that the object of longing might never be had again. In collaboration with Lead Artist + Sculptor Elana Schwartz, Jaelah completed the painting of this beloved character living in a stairwell of Nuumena, the multi-swamp zone of Convergence Station.
