You’ve heard of the artist’s studio being a place of wild abandon, intense creation, eccentricity and absurdity, a place where freedom reigns. The magic’s in the making and MAKE 121 Studio Immersion is a chance to work side-by-side in Studio 121 with established contemporary artist and educator Jaelah Kuehmichel. She invites you behind the scenes to guide you through the mystery of the creative process and, together, create a unique work of art. Your choices, ideas and hands will be in the final product— no artistic skills necessary. The process and the painting style are customized to suit you and your particular taste. The best part is you get to keep the art and add it to your private collection!

WHAT IF I’M NOT AN ARTIST?

Perfect! No art experience is necessary. You will be guided through the process by professional interdisciplinary artist, Jaelah Kuehmichel. Your choices, ideas, and preferences will be a tool for the artist to utilize in conjunction with her own. You’ll work together to make it happen so all you really need is an open mind and a sense of adventure! The artist will take care of the rest and make sure the final product looks good.

WHAT KIND OF ART WILL WE MAKE?

You will make a medium-sized (approximately 30 x 30”) mixed media painting, unless another size is requested. The style of art will depend on your personal taste and preference, which Jaelah will inquire about before your session. Having only 4 hours to work will limit your ability to engage in technically consuming processes or detailed realistic rendering. Most likely your piece will lean towards expressionism, abstraction, or minimalism. Jaelah has an “anything goes” attitude when it comes to materials and has a stockade of various supplies to utilize. HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?

Plan for your MAKE 121 session to take 4 hours, although it’s possible to finish in less time. Most likely the art will need some time to dry before you can take it home, so you will schedule another day to pick it up. This also allows the artist to add any finishing touches and to attach wall-hanging hardware. Payment must be made at the end of the studio session regardless of final pick up date.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

It costs $500. A $50 deposit is required upon scheduling. You will receive a certificate of authenticity and a statement of value for the final piece you take home to add to your collection. Payments can be made with cash, check, PayPal, or credit card.

CAN I CHOOSE THE SIZE OF THE PAINTING?

Yes! If you have a specific wall in mind for the final piece or a personal preference for a larger or smaller work, just let Jaelah know ahead of time. If no size preference is expressed, your MAKE 121 painting will be approximately 30 x 30” on canvas or wood panel.

CAN WE CUSTOMIZE THE ART TO FIT MY HOME?

Absolutely! If you have a specific room or wall in mind we can cater the dimensions, color scheme, and content to best compliment your space.

WILL I GET DIRTY?

Yes! Getting a little messy is part of the fun so please wear a complete outfit you do not mind getting paint on. You can’t “go there” when you’re worried about getting paint on your favorite pair of jeans. No need to look fabulous, we know you’re a gem.

DO I NEED TO BRING ANYTHING?

Just your sweet self. All materials are provided. You are welcome to bring any specific images or sentimental materials you may want to incorporate in the art piece (photos, magazine cut outs, poems, found objects, fabrics, etc) but this is not necessary.

WHERE IS STUDIO 121 LOCATED?

Jaelah Fine Art & Design is in Studio 121, located inside building 1 of the Canopy Art Complex in east Austin, Texas. Canopy is a creative community set within a redeveloped warehouse. Artist studios, creative office spaces, art galleries, and a café are stitched together with communal courtyards and covered breezeways, emphasizing the connectedness between art, culture, and the public.
