SKRIBE is a subscription to the sketchbook of interdisciplinary artist & designer Jaelah Kuehmichel. Have you ever wondered what treasures lay inside the sketchbooks of your favorite artists? What drawings, notes, and musings they recorded in these private pages? Sometimes it’s more interesting than the actual artwork! These unedited marks are a glimpse into the inner world of the artist, full of fascination, curiosity, trial, error, adventure, and desire. Jaelah’s work varies from painting to performance, abstract to representational, fantastical to conceptual. Having spent over a decade developing her artistic vision and filling countless sketchbooks, she is now peeling back the pages for all to see.
Picture this. You’re at the grocery store at the end of a long day and you hear the familiar beep of your phone, an incoming text message, probably another one of those annoying group texts from your family. You wait until you’ve fondled for all the good apples before reluctantly slipping it out of your pocket to make sure it’s nothing important. Ooh, wait, it’s a picture! Pinch zoom, a drawing from that SKRIBE thing… wait, are those dinosaurs nuzzling up to building cranes? They’re holding hands and martinis, it looks like they’re having happy hour… Hehee, you catch yourself giggling out loud and look up to see if anyone else in the produce department heard you. You tuck your phone away knowing that you’ll take a closer look once you get home. Pushing your cart with a little more pep in your step and a mysterious smirk on your face, moving on to the isle 4...
Individual subscribers will receive 1 sketchbook image per week via text message. Each drawing will be photographed and texted directly to you immediately after its creation, so it can come at any time on any day! A visual treat each week that is just for you, the images you receive will not be sent to anyone else. You’ll be the first to see each drawing and get an intimate peek at the working process behind Jaelah’s practice. Simple or complex, large or small, always raw and unedited, SKRIBE will surprise and delight you week after week.

HOW OFTEN WILL I RECEIVE AN IMAGE?
You will receive 1 drawing image each week for every month you subscribe. Jaelah will send you each drawing immediately after it is completed, which means it can come at any time throughout the week.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
$25 per month. Subscriptions are available for 1, 3, or 6 months.
HOW WILL I RECEIVE EACH IMAGE?
You will receive each image by text message. After paying for your subscription online send a text message to Jaelah at 512.650.7726 with your name for confirmation.
CAN I POST THESE IMAGES ONLINE?
You can share and post the drawing images you receive as long as you give the artist credit with each post, as in “by Jaelah Kuehmichel”. Additionally, you can use hashtags #skribe and #jaelahfad or include the artist’s web address www.jaelahfad.com
WILL ANYONE ELSE RECEIVE THE SAME IMAGES?
No two subscribers will ever receive the same image. Jaelah will complete and send a NEW drawing to each subscriber each week. If she has 10 subscribers she will send out 10 different drawings each week.
WHAT IF THERE ARE LIKE 100 SUBSCRIBERS?
Then Jaelah will do 100 drawings per week and that is exactly the point. The more subscribers, the more she’ll be drawing!
DO I OWN THE IMAGES ONCE I RECEIVE THEM?
No. You can keep the digital images you receive for your own “digital collection”, but the artist retains full copyright of all images and physical drawings. The artist has agreed to keep your images private for one month. After that, she may choose to share some of your SKRIBE images online.
IF I REALLY LIKE ONE OF THE IMAGES CAN I BUY THE ACTUAL DRAWING?
Yes. Let Jaelah know if you’re interested in purchasing one of the drawings.
WILL ALL OF THE DRAWINGS COME STRAIGHT OUT OF THE ARTIST’S SKETCHBOOK?
Because Jaelah does a lot of drawing both in and out of her sketchbooks, some of the drawings you receive might be on loose or larger paper that is not physically bound into a sketchbook. These are still sketches in her mind. Sometimes you just can’t be bound by a book!
WHERE IS THE ARTIST LOCATED?
Jaelah lives in Austin, Texas and works out of her studio and design office at the Canopy Art Complex. She loves visitors so contact her if you would like to schedule a studio visit to see the work in person.
